I have a '96 F250 4x4 w/ 7.3L turbo diesel. Currently I have 265/75/16 tires on 7" wheels. I believe I have 4.10 gears.

To clear 35"s you should go 6", you can go 4" but most people are un happy and if your going to do the work you might as well go 6". A 4" lift is more oe less, is an inch more than a leveling kit. As far as whats better, smaller tires or a lift, it's all up to you and how you want your truck to look and perform.

To clear 37's you will have to have a 6" lift if you are going to be running 10" wide wheels with any back space to them at all. You still can clear 35's on the 2.5" lift.But 4” is plenty to clear 35s. There isn’t much articution in the F150 suspension. Most popular lifts won’t add any articulation either. They do rub on full turn on the leafsprings but that's because the are 14" wide. I beleive if I had 12 or 12.5 wide they wouldn't rub on the leafsprings.
